This past weekend I joined eight other Climb for Clean Air participants to attempt the summit of Mt. Rainier. Although weather did not allow us to make it to the top, I was able to climb to 12,300’ and back safely, and had an amazing experience.
On Friday July 15th we climbed from Paradise to Camp Muir, which is about 4.5 miles and about 4,500‘ elevation gain. We stayed at Camp Muir and slept for a few hours, then started our summit attempt at around 1am on July 16th. Strong winds and wet conditions made it unsafe to continue on, and we turned around at the Top of Cleaver at around 12,300’ elevation. We all made it back safely around 11:30am on the 16th. The climb was a great challenge and I’m proud of the whole team for their efforts, both in climbing and fundraising. Many of us wish to attempt the summit again next year!
